Learn to Search - Academic: Finding The Right Fit
As you begin to build your framework of the type of college experience you are looking for, one of the most important and long-term decisions you will have is what you choose to study, as this more than likely will be a decision that will impact your career and life. Having an understanding of your interests, skills, and motivations when it comes to academics is an important step to begin to align a degree field that is the right fit for you.
Please review the following presentation on finding the right fit academically, and some areas to think about to help narrow down a degree field/area of study. You can view this presentation HERE.
Task: Using your CAP worksheet, finalize the key aspects of your academic needs/wants, most notably degree fields/areas of study that interest you.
Search to Find - School Lists:
One of the most helpful, though time-consuming processes within the college recruitment process is researching schools that fulfill your interests and needs/wants out of your college experience. This process involves detailed research and review, but will set you up for success in ensuring you are communicating with schools that you already know are a potentially great fit for you.
You can view the presentation of how to compile and build your school lists, as well as helpful tips and guidelines to keep in mind through the process HERE.
Task: Begin the process of creating your first school list of 5-10 schools that fulfill your needs/wants, and enter these schools and information into your list.
Interact to Commit - Official Visits:
Official Visits can be the crucial and determining step in your decision making process to commit to attend a school. During these visits, it is critical that you ensure you have answered any remaining questions you have about the school, allowing you to have complete information and understanding when it comes to making your commitment decision.
The following presentation covers the limitations and rules surrounding official visits, as well as important preparation steps leading up to your official visit. You can view the video presentation HERE.
Task: Prepare a list of 4-5 key questions that you would want to have answered when you go on an official visit.
College Recruitment Master Document:
With each monthly email I will also attach the College Advisory Master Worksheet - this is a resource for players to utilize for their own journey. These worksheets will also be useful for any future CAP meetings/discussions.
Thank you all, and please feel free to reach out with any questions.
